Background
Jan Žižka (c. 1360–1424) was a legendary Czech military leader and key figure of the Hussite Wars, known for his tactical genius and use of wagon fortresses (vozová hradba). Despite going completely blind later in life, he led numerous victorious battles against both domestic and foreign enemies, including crusading armies sent by the Pope. He was a follower of Jan Hus and a staunch defender of the Hussite cause, fighting for religious reform and Czech independence. Žižka founded the radical Taborite faction and later the Orphans (Sirotci), continuing the fight even after Hus’s death. His military innovations and leadership made him one of the most respected commanders of medieval Europe.
