Background
Lidice is a village in the Czech Republic that was completely destroyed by Nazi forces on June 10, 1942, as a brutal act of retaliation following the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. The Nazis executed 192 men, deported women to concentration camps, and sent many children to be Germanized or killed. The village was erased from maps, and its land was reassigned to neighboring towns. After World War II, Lidice was rebuilt nearby, and a memorial was established at the original site to honor the victims. Today, Lidice stands as a symbol of resistance, remembrance, and the horrors of war.
