Background
Jan Amos Komenský (1592–1670) was a Czech philosopher, theologian, and educator, widely regarded as the father of modern education. He developed a comprehensive and humanistic approach to teaching, emphasizing lifelong learning, universal education, and methods like "learning through play" and visual aids. His most famous works include Didactica Magna, Orbis Pictus, and Labyrint světa a ráj srdce. Forced into exile due to religious persecution, he continued writing and teaching across Europe, influencing educational systems in many countries. Komenský is celebrated as the “Teacher of Nations” and a symbol of Czech intellectual and cultural heritage. His ideas laid the foundation for modern pedagogy and elevated the Czech language and literature. He represents resilience, wisdom, and the pursuit of knowledge, and his legacy is honored in Czech schools, museums, and national memory.
