Inside the low concrete wall stands the concrete angel E.T. Wickham sculpted in 1952 for his son Ernest’s grave; Wickham also carved the family headstones himself.
According to site guides and family sources, this angel is the only Wickham statue still in its original, undamaged location; most of his other roadside figures (built between roughly 1950 and 1970) were vandalized and some were moved behind fencing in 2003. Wickham was a self-taught farmer who reinforced his concrete with pipes and wire.
