The Ghost Church in the Bohemian Hinterland
St. George's Church was built in the 14th century and has been plagued by some destructive incidents since then. It burned down several times and in 1968 the roof collapsed on a mourning congregation. From then on, the congregation held its services outside the church.
The building fell into disrepair, thieves and vandals wreaked havoc, and eventually the church was simply forgotten.
As part of an art campaign to revive abandoned churches in Bohemia and also to address the post-war history between the Czech Republic and Germany, artist Jakub Hadrava1 installed ghosts on the church pews. The roof was also repaired thanks to donations and funding.
To enter the church you have to register, but you can also get glimpses through the open windows.
The cemetery is also interesting with some interesting graves of Germans and also Czechs.
